Bikky Sunazawa was a renowned artist from Asahikawa , Hokkaido , working primarily in wood-carving but also in other media such as painting and drawing. Though his work was undoubtedly influenced by his Ainu roots, they were not confined by tradition and were unique creations from a very contemporary artist.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a few of his works as part of the Yokohama Triennale 2011 exhibit at the Yokohama Museum of Art:

80th Anniversary Exhibit: Bikky Sunazawa –Polyhedron World–
Commemorating the 80th anniversary of his birth, the exhibit presents the creative world of Bikky Sunazawa, centered around the collection from the Otoineppu Eco Museum Osashima Center BIKKY Atelier 3Moa and also including his major works from the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Sapporo Art Museum , and Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art.
