December 6, 2011: Special Seminar at Meisei University

Following up its special seminar held on November 8 (details here), the Education Department at Meisei University will be holding another special seminar on Ainu culture open to the public.

The speaker this time will be Haruzo Urakawa, who is the star of the upcoming “Haruzo: A Life Among the Spirits” and is also prominently featured in the documentary film “TOKYO Ainu,” both of which are projects involving AINU PRIDE PRODUCTIONS.

Instructor:
Haruzo Urakawa (Honorary President, Tokyo Ainu Association)
Born 1938 in Anecha, Urakawa-cho, Urakawa-gun, Hokkaido.
Learned hunting and the life of the mountains from his father, and learned the wisdom and spirit regarding “food” from his mother. Came to Tokyo in his forties after amassing a variety of experience working in the logging, construction, and scrap industries. Established the “Tokyo Ainu Association” and headed the “Association in Support of Shigeru Kayano in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.” Built various spaces for people to gather together such as “Poro Cise” in Otsuki, Yamanashi, “Pon Cise” in Akiruno, Tokyo, and “Kamuy Mintar” in Kimizu, Chiba, and continues to head up new activities.
