Nov. 20, 2011 – Feb. 12 2012: 80th Anniversary Exhibit: Bikky Sunazawa –Polyhedron World–

Bikky Sunazawa was a renowned artist from Asahikawa, Hokkaido, working primarily in wood-carving but also in other media such as painting and drawing. Though his work was undoubtedly influenced by his Ainu roots, they were not confined by tradition and were unique creations from a very contemporary artist.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a few of his works as part of the Yokohama Triennale 2011 exhibit at the Yokohama Museum of Art:

Unfortunately the Yokohama Triennale is now over (August 6 – November 6, 2011), but you can catch his work at a special exhibition now ongoing at the Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art.
